Free Game of the Week - Tower Defence
Games: Posted: 3/1/07 19:07 Author: Scabrous Birdseed Comments: 94 Comments

Sorry about last week. I was away.

Anyway, this excellent strategy game is apparently based on a Warcraft 3 mod, but it stands on its own and is more addictive than most similar excercises. Early decisions will greatly influence what happens in the end...

Free Game of the Week - Railroad Tycoon
Games: Posted: 19/12/06 08:59 Author: Scabrous Birdseed Comments: 5 Comments

Well, here is the game that cemented Sid Meier's acute understanding of the Strategy genre a year before Civilization, released as freeware for the first time. It's a fairly obvious FGoTW candidadte so I don't really have to say any more I think. Thanks Qaj for the suggestion.

Free Game of the Week - Snowdriftland
Games: Posted: 11/12/06 09:07 Author: Scabrous Birdseed Comments: Add A Comment!

It's not often you get to feature a full-sized, 24-level platformer in FGoTW, possibly because they take quite high production values most amateurs don't have. Luckily, this is professionals we're talking about, and not just any proffessionals: this is a promotional game made by nintendo and the polish is excellent for a flash game.

One new level a day will be opened till christmas, so there's 11 to chose from right now. Can you collect all the crystals?

Free Game of the Week - M&Ms Dark Chocolate
Games: Posted: 4/12/06 18:06 Author: Scabrous Birdseed Comments: 12 Comments

Let's face it, if you want fun games that have appeared on this site, none have engrossed people more than that poster thing from Virgin where you had to find 50 band names, and that wasn't even a proper web game or a FGOTW! Here's my semi-lame, derivative attempt to rectify that: here you have to find 50 horror or thriller movies instead.

(It's still rather fun.)

Free Game of the Week - The Missile Game 3D

See, If you just send stuff to me I'll post it. Whether I like it or not. This is Scud Wallaby's suggestion - great graphics, but not really my cup of tea otherwise.

Free Game of the Week - Actually, a bunch
Games: Posted: 21/11/06 09:04 Author: Scabrous Birdseed Comments: 34 Comments

There's been a huge trend towards games based on using your mouse to draw walls recently, and they're all fairly fun. Also, my usual principle of rewarding innovation is pushed aside a bit since I've got no idea which was first.

The draw-your-own-platformer:

Possibly the original, not actually a game in the usual sense:

The Ball dropping, incredible machines style game:

And the lemmings clone:

Now don't complain about not having enough stuff to play with over the next week.

3, 2, 1 BLAST OFF!!! The PS3 has launched
Games: Posted: 17/11/06 14:40 Author: Venom Comments: Add A Comment!

Unless you're too cool for this gaming stuff, or you've lived under a rock for the last year or so, you've heard of this Play Station 3 thing. Well it launched in America Thursday amid reports of riots, robberies and a general lack of law and order.

I'd post links to such things but there are so many it's ridiculous. Go look for yourself. And then post them in the thread that this news article has created.

Free Game of the Week - Funny Farm
Games: Posted: 14/11/06 15:58 Author: Scabrous Birdseed Comments: 8 Comments

This is such great fun - they should release a system so you could make your own.

It's essentially the concept of a mind map changed into a game. While that might sound mindnumbingly management-seminar dull, it's actually quite an interesting challenge trying to guess what word goes where exactly, and they seem to have hit just about the right level of difficulty. (Though it is a bit too US-centric.)

In any case, you're likely to go back and go back over and over again trying to get that particular word...
